A Record of Cloth

反物の来歴

◆ ◆ ◆

A year of traditional Japanese men's kimono cloth — thirty-four bolts gathered between one spring and the next, the patterns surfaced retrospectively. Six chapters, recorded in honor of the artisans whose hands shaped the silk and the silkworms whose lives are woven into the fabric.

  1. Prologue A Year of Cloth 序 ― 一年の布 A year of unplanned acquisition — bolts that converged into patterns visible only in aggregate. Workshops, regions, families, and the cloth that was already on its way.
  2. I The Workshops 一 ― 工房 forthcoming
  3. II The Regions 二 ― 地方 forthcoming
  4. III The Families 三 ― 系譜 forthcoming
  5. IV The Bolts 四 ― 反物 forthcoming
  6. V The Outfits 五 ― 装い forthcoming
  7. VI A Closing Thought 結 ― 一つの結び Twenty-nine bolts, three ensembles, one workshop quartet recognized only after the fact. Not a conclusion — a thread continued, with deep gratitude to the lives of silkworms and the hands at the loom.
